Reimagining what a plant can do.
Health Food Symmetry (HFS) is a specialty health and wellness ingredient supplier delivering scientifically formulated functional food and nutraceutical products to Australian and international markets — for humans and animals.
At the centre of everything we do is PhytoBiome® — the world’s first Complete Fibre from Australian Virgin Cane, developed through 10+ years of proprietary research and manufactured entirely in Australia. PhytoBiome is the new standard in prebiotic fibre — delivering the equivalent of 1–2 servings of vegetables per serve.
The story of Health Food Symmetry.
The story of Health Food Symmetry began not in a laboratory, but on a journey of discovery in Japan. Gordon and Janine Edwards — founders and owners of HFS — came from backgrounds in healthcare and agribusiness. Inspired by pioneering research on transforming agricultural by-products into beneficial dietary fibre, they brought the concept back to North Queensland.

A pilot study revealed two critical things: conventional sugarcane processing, dedicated only to sugar, was destroying the most valuable part of the plant — its natural and unique fibre matrix containing valuable phytonutrients. And once the sugar was reduced by gentle dilution, what remained was extraordinary.
They made a profound personal commitment. They sold their home, liquidated their investments, and set out to build something that had never been done before — a chemical-free, whole-plant sugarcane prebiotic, validated by science, manufactured to world-class standards, and designed to genuinely change how people feel and understand that a true complete fibre should not be compared to ultra-processed fibres.
Today, from a $10 million facility in Queensland, HFS supplies PhytoBiome® to food manufacturers, supplement brands, hospitals, and veterinary markets — and directly to consumers through myBiome. The science is robust and more evidence continues to demonstrate that PhytoBiome® leads the market in its equivalence to true vegetable fibre and the benefits to digestive health.
Our mission.
To revolutionise dietary fibre solutions for the global food industry, addressing critical gaps in digestive health, metabolic wellness, and sustainable nutrition.
What guides us.
Scientific Rigour
Every product and claim is grounded in research, scientific validation, and proven efficacy. We hold ourselves to exemplary evidentiary standards — because our customers’ credibility depends on ours.
Natural Integrity
We preserve whole-plant nutrition through sustainable, chemical-free processes. PhytoBiome® is not isolated, purified, or synthesised — it is the sugarcane plant, with the sugar reduced by gentle dilution. The only raw materials used in the facility are freshly harvested Australian virgin cane and water for processing.
Innovation
We pioneer new prebiotic applications that advance digestive wellness across people, animals, and food systems. Our granted patents in IBD and GORD, and our National filings for NAFLD, reflect a pipeline built on genuine discovery.
Scientific Rigour
We operate with full accountability — track-and-trace manufacturing from field to consumer, third-party NATA testing, and zero agricultural residues. You know exactly what you’re getting.
Partnership
We collaborate with researchers, clinicians, manufacturers, and communities to maximise health impact. Our work with RMIT University, Dietitian Connection, and First Nations organisations reflects a belief that good science should reach everyone.

Our scientific advisor.
Professor Raj Eri — External Scientific Advisor
Professor Raj Eri is based at RMIT University and is a leader in dietary fibre and microbiome research. His work has moved fibre classification beyond the old soluble/insoluble model to a framework that reflects structural and functional diversity — linking fibre matrix, fermentation rate, and water-holding properties directly to health outcomes.
His research validates HFS’s whole-plant approach, positioning PhytoBiome® as a new standard in prebiotic fibre science with structural properties that conventional isolated fibres cannot replicate.
